Specimen: NP or Nasal Washing
Collection Notes: Bloody specimens should not be sent for testing. Nasal washes and aspirates may be submitted in sterile containers, swabs should be submitted in M4RT Viral/Chlamydia transport media.
Transport Temperature: Room Temperature
Also Acceptable: Universal transport medium (UTM), M5 viral transport media (refrigerated)

Notes: As of 10/22/13, a negative RSV antigen test reflexes to Simplexa Direct Influenza A/B & RSV PCR. Unless RSV activity in the community warrants, rapid antigen testing will only be performed during the months of October through May. Viral testing will be performed by Shell Vial Culture June through September. Additional charges apply.
